Museums

Although present for decades, the frequency of returning looted artefacts has intensified during the last years. However, these returns encompass complicated discussions about these important cultural heritage artefacts taken during periods of armed conflict or colonialism, or those removed in contravention of international Conventions, Acts and national laws. We assist our clients in a range of transactional matters related to museum collection management, including advising and structuring deals for the purchase and sale of art, agreements for site-specific artworks, agreements with artists, exhibition and loan agreements, counselling institutions on the commercial use of art-related intellectual property, gifting artworks and cultural heritage restitution, copyright disputes, claims involving theft, loss and physical damage of art works.
